Box Trapper for Spam: An update
I am thrilled to report that Box Trapper working in tandem with Spam Assasin on my hosting account has kept out 140 spam emails in the last ten days (since 25th November 2006) on two of my email accounts for which I had enabled them.
There were exactly 4 false positives on one of my email accounts and the reason was I had not added those addresses to my whitelist. I promptly did that now. This is one reason to set the period for the review queue to at least 30 days. Most people can get around to reveiwing the queue at least once a month, I would think.
You know what excites me the most? Both these email addresses have been (and probably continue to be) on web pages somewhere, which is a sure recipe for inviting spam. Yet, here I am, enjoying virtually spam free inboxes for these very email addresses! Thanks, Box Trapper. Thanks, Spam Assasin.
Now to enable them for other email addresses on that domain...
For your entertainment, here is a screenshot of one particular day when these guys were really busy:
A bunch of spam caught by Box Trapper
Note: This Box Trapper experiment seems to work fine for my personal email, but Michelle Devon cautions it may not work as well for businesses. Since I am not a spam control expert by any stretch of imagination, I just wanted to add this bit of warning.
