We've all heard of DRM (shouldn't that be really Digital Restriction Management?), that harebrained technology thought up by equally harebrained folks to restrict the rights of how consumers can use even things they have purchased.

Well, the proponents of digital freedom are hitting back. And how! There are two new sites educating about and campaigning against DRM- one, DRM Info is spearheaded by the Free Software Foundation, Europe and the other, Defective By Design, by the Free Software Foundation itself.

The more hard hitting site in terms of impact is the latter. People are being asked to run a campaign on Amazon.com to tag DRM-encumbered products with the 'defectivebydesign' tag. And people have already used this tag on 500 products sold on amazon.com. Whoever thought of this campaign must be commended as it hits these companies where it hurts- their bottomline.

For me, the icing on the cake is that both sites use my favourite content management system- Drupal!
